Surprise! You’re at our Wedding!
Did someone say SURPRISE WEDDING?
Well, that’s what we got with Mitch and Erica this past fall. They’d already had plans thwarted by Covid so when they were in the midst of planning a wine tour weekend with friends, the idea struck Erica: why not get married with everyone already there?
That’s when she contacted the Wolfville Wedding Chapel to help with her plans to pull off the most epic surprise for their friends. (And yes, we were one-hundred-percent on board!).
Unbeknownst to their friends, Mitch and Erica visited the chapel and dropped of their wedding outfits prior to their weekend wine tour. The day of the surprise came and the group piled into the charter bus and enjoyed a Saturday in the valley; enjoying the wine, the food, and the views. Everything was going to plan ; )
The last stop of the night before heading back to Halifax was for their dinner reservation in Wolfville. The tour bus pulled up outside the Wolfville Wedding Chapel where the owner, Sarah, and the chapel’s photographer and videographer, Janette and Steve, were waiting. Music was playing but the parking lot was relatively dark. The only thing lit up was the Wolfville Wedding Chapel.
As they climbed out of the bus, a few friends jokingly remarked that it would be fun if a friend were to get married at the chapel. Erica slyly commented, “WE are getting married here” but her friends didn’t believe her. She said it again and Sarah threw open the chapel doors. CUE WILD APPLAUSE.
There was screaming. There was shock and tears and the emotion of realization for their friends: THEY WERE AT ERICA AND MITCH’S WEDDING.
Everyone piled inside and we served champagne and took photos while Mitch and Erica got changed.
When their friends were ready, Erica walked up the aisle in a room filled with teary eyes and warm, happy hearts.
They said their vows, the sealed the deal, and we served more champagne. It was a beautiful moment. What a gift to share with your friends: a surprise wedding. No gifts, no need for new outfits, no expectations.
When the kissing and cheering died down the happy crew headed off to dinner and eventually back home to Halifax.
This surprise wedding was one for the books. Congrats Mitch and Erica!
